Welcome
I am Maria Patricia Abuel but you can call me Patricia. I got my name Patricia because I was born near St. Patrick’s Day so I use the clover as my personal symbol. I am currently a first year student in the Arts Management Co-op program at the University of Toronto Scarborough. I am excited and scared to see what comes my way this year! Good luck to whatever you are pursuing!

My first love
No, the title is not referring to Angelina Jolie. I am talking about art.  I love art. As a child I was always experimenting with drawing, painting, arts and crafts, sculpting, origami, and art. It encouraged me to do more art when people complimented my work. I hope to develop as an artist. I need to push myself and learn more. As you can see from my drawing, I am simply...

Heaven on earth
I love food! One of the biggest reasons why I want to travel the world is so I can eat delicious food! I always try to finish my plate even if I don’t like the taste of it because I am thankful for having enough to eat everyday and I don’t like to waste food.  Who says you can’t play with your food? Too bad I’m better at playing with my food than cooking food.  I...

Toyo at Patis
(Fish sauce and Soy Sauce) I wear tsinelas, I eat rice everyday, I mano to show respect, I answer to Pssst! I think many Filipino people can relate to that.  The island of Philippines may be small but we have a lot to offer.

Volunteering
Since I can’t give a lot of monetary donations, I try to donate my time. I have volunteered for The Good Shepherd which is a homeless shelter, Sick Kids, KidSport, Epilepsy York Region, and more. It is important to try and help the community. It really makes a difference for those in need.

Love Yourself
This was my view of Lady Gaga at the Much Music Video Awards. I couldn’t see her that clearly but at least I got to hear her live. I am a big fan of Lady Gaga and what she stands for. She is very very weird but this shows how she is not afraid to push the boundaries and get her message across. Lady Gaga promotes being yourself and I think that is a very important message. Even Arthur,...

Forever grateful
I owe so much to my family.  I did not grow up with a father but instead I had all my aunts and uncles loving me always with so much guidance and support.

I have always had in interest in playing music. I began playing piano when I was in grade 2, played flute in grade 7 and 8 for instrumental class and tried learning the guitar on my own in grade 9 as you can see in this amateur cover video.  I don’t have a particular favourite type of music. I am open to every kind of music from rap, R & B, scream, acoustic, indie, country, to...

My Lola
My grandmother is always looking out for me.  “Tricia, did you eat?” “Sleep now!” She is a big reason on why I want to do well in school. Part of the reason I think she pushes me to do well in school is because she wasn’t given the opportunity to go to university.  I hope to be as loving as my grandmother someday.

Optimism
“My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful, and optimistic and we’ll change the world.” - Jack Layton

1 Love Toronto
I love my city. I feel fortunate to live in such a diverse city.  I love how I am able to get a taste of the world in one place.  I can get dim sum in Chinatown, samosas in Little Inida, gyros in Greektown… Okay… it’s not just about the food. It’s about interacting with different people and understanding more about the world through experiences with them.

Golden Rule
It’s not so crystal clear when it comes to my faith.  I was grew up with traditional Roman Catholic beliefs but as I grew up, I became unsure of what I believed in. I don’t agree with many things in Catholic teaching such as the teaching that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. Religion has many flaws but only because humans have many flaws. I know that many...

Jerome has given me so much!  He taught me how to be more confident, loving, and hardworking. Without his encouragement and support, I would definitely not be the person I am today.

I don’t sing that well but I wanted to make this Mother’s Day video for my mother anyway.  My mother is definitely a lovely woman. She is the most loving, hardworking, caring person I know. I hope to be as amazing as her one day. I owe my mother my life because she gave it all she had to raise me on her own.

Apparently I'm Hermione to him
Laurence is the older brother I never had.  He always looks out for me and calls me out when I’m being stupid.  We’ve been through a lot together so that gives him the title of Best Friend.  I know that we’ll continue growing together and yelling at each other!

I love my city. I’m so fortunate to live in such a multicultural city. I can get dim sum in Chinatown, gyros in Greektown, and samosas in Little India… Okay, it’s not just about the food. It’s about meeting different people and experiencing the world little by little through your interactions with them. I find Toronto a warm home rich with diversity and opportunity.

Leadership
Wearing this cardigan in my senior year gave me pride: I was the external affairs representative of the Notre Dame Student Council of 2010-2011. Taking on this position gave me so many opportunities.  The biggest one was being part of the Catholic Student Leadership Impact Team where I got to meet other student leaders and help improve the school board. I was inspired to do more in the world...
